Your Deposits Are Safe With GN Bank; No Cause For Alarm - Nana Ofori Owusu

Aspiring National Chairman of the Progressive People's Party (PPP) Nana Ofori Owusu has urged customers of GN Bank to remain calm because their deposits are safe.

Speaking to host Kwami Sefa Kayi on Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo' programme, Nana Ofori Owusu noted that there is no cause for alarm and so calls on Ghanaians entirely not to engage in panic withdrawals from the banks, particularly local financial institutions, in the country.

He was commenting on recent shake-ups in the financial sector which have seemingly pumped fear in Ghanaians who are saving with various banks in the country.

The President of GN Bank, Paa Kwesi Nduom, has been visiting his customers assuring them of the bank's strength and ability to keep their deposits in a safe condition.

Dr. Nduom is extremely concerned with the possibility of panic withdrawals from the bank as a result of actions by the Bank of Ghana to shut down some banks.

The Bank of Ghana took over about 7 banks and has joined them to become a consolidated bank.

Addressing the issue, Nana Ofori Owusu asked the Government of Ghana to help strengthen local banks in order to whip up the confidence of Ghanaians in transacting business with the banks.

According to him, it is safer for people to put their monies in the banks than withdraw them which put them at risk.

Though admitting that there are challenges with the financial sector, Nana Ofori Owusu is however hopeful that should the government support the banks and allay the fears of customers, there will be massive improvement in the sector.

He pleaded with Ghanaians, particularly GN Bank customers, to note their "money is safe but there is no way the money can be given to everyone at the same time. Let’s support your money to be in the bank. Don’t go for it now. Let it remain there and it will multiply for you. There is no pesewa that will be lost in the local financial institutions. We apologize to Ghanaians to note that there are difficulties but we as a people will overcome the difficulties”.
