Major General Sampson Adeti Is A Retired Army Officer – Ex-Prez Mahama Clarifies

Former President John Dramani Mahama has dispelled reports suggesting the head of security for his campaign team, Major General Sampson Kudjo Adeti, is still serving as an officer in the Ghana Armed Forces.

According to the former President, Major General Sampson Kudjo Adeti who is the former Chief of Staff at General Headquarters of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) at Burma Camp, retired from the army since February 10, 2017.

A publication carried by Daily Guide suggests Major General Sampson Adeti, is yet to retire from the GAF but has been made the security coordinator for former President John Mahama’s campaign team.

The report detailed how Major General Adeti moves around with Mahama on his campaign tours to help him (Mahama) convince NDC supporters to elect him as flagbearer for the party in the 2020 presidential election.

According to the publication, the head of the security team was spotted in Tamale during Mahama’s recent visit to the Northern regional capital.

Checks by Daily Guide revealed the army chief is violating military rules by using his leave period prior to retirement to engage in partisan politics.

The report further disclosed that Major General Adeti is still occupying his official residence at Burma Camp, hence, his present job as security coordinator for the former president’s campaign team is a breach of military standards.

“General Adeti, who had been tipped to become Army Commander had John Mahama been retained, is among some senior military officers who have taken cover under the umbrella since NDC lost power. Immediately the NDC lost the elections, the same general allegedly lobbied vigorously for an ambassadorial post, claiming that he had nothing to do with the NDC and traced his roots to Nsawam and not the Volta Region,” the report by Daily Guide revealed.

Reacting to the above claims in relation to Major General Adeti’s appointment as Head of Security for his Campaign Team, former President John Mahama in a brief statement, described the publication as “mischievous and unfounded”.

The statement signed by former President Mahama’s spokesperson, James Agyenim-Boateng faulted Daily Guide for failing to verify the facts, adding that “the newspapers deliberately set out to publish falsehood to mislead the public”.

The statement further explained that Major General Adeti was forced to go on retirement by the NPP government on February 10, 2017.

“For the avoidance of doubt and to set the records straight, Major General Sampson Kudjo Adeti is a retired distinguished officer of the Ghana Armed Forces. His terminal leave ended on 13th August, 2018, after nearly 37 years of dedicated and professional service to Ghana,” the statement clarifies.

The John Mahama 2020 Campaign Team also expressed their delight in having Major General Adeti who has “impeccable academic qualifications as well as a sterling record of military service” on board.
