We Can’t Neglect Zongos —Atwima Mponua DCE Fires Back

District Chief Executive (DCE) of Atwima Mponua Assembly in the Ashanti Region, Yaw Darko Williams Darko, has rubbished the statement by Atwima Mponua Zongo Youth Association (ZYA), suggesting that he has neglected them.

According to the DCE, the allegation was unfounded and baseless, adding that the leadership of the group, led by Yusiff Moro, Alhaji Faisal and Arimeyaw Abdul Rahman, are known activists of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), whose stock-in-trade is to destroy his hard won reputation and that of the MP for the area.

In this regard, the DCE urged the Zongo community in his area to have confidence in his ability to turn the fortunes of the district around and support him massively to actualise his dream.

“We will make judicious use of the assembly’s internally generated funds and resources to benefit everyone,” he told Today in an interview via telephone, while responding to the allegation by the youth group.

The group has accused the DCE and the MP of the area of neglect and gross respect after using them to win political power during the 2016 general election.

Speaking on Silver FM in Kumasi, the spokesperson for the group, Yusiff Moro, questioned the honesty of political actors including the DCE and the MP after promising them jobs and for which reason they voted massively for them.

Yusiff Moro also accused the DCE of conniving with some assembly members to vote against their Muslim brother, Baba Yaro, when he contested the presiding member slot for the district.

But in a quick rebuttal, the DCE, Yaw Darko Williams Darko, reiterated his love for Zongo communities, stressing that his administration only seeks the welfare of all, without any form of discrimination.

He assured the chiefs and people of the Zongo community that the assembly would not neglect them but rather work hard to improve education, health and provide security.

“If I neglect the Zongos, I will be neglecting myself because I am one of them and as I am speaking to you now we are going to cut a sod for the opening of a 16-seater water closet toilet facility in the community,” he disclosed.

According to him, even though the community was noted for supporting the NDC, the party was not able to do that project for them.

“It is because of this project that is why they have decided to go on radio today just to divert attention and make those misguided statements against me and the MP,” he claimed.
