Kweku Baako, Editor-in-Chief of the New Crusading Guide, considers Ex-President Jerry John Rawlings to be the "luckiest Ghanaian" ever.

According to him, looking back into Ghana's history and the role Mr. Rawlings played in the loss of lives of several Ghanaians, he could only be lucky to remain alive till today.

Kweku Baako was commenting on Joy FM's documentary about the killing of some Judges during the Rawlings' regime.

The documentary dubbed "Who Killed the Judges" to educate Ghanaians on events that led to the abduction and demise of three prominent Justices in 1982.

The three judges; Justices Kwadwo Adjei Agyepong, Poku Sarkodie and Mrs. Cecelia Koranteng-Addow, and a retired Major in the Ghana Armed Forces, were abducted and branded “enemies of the revolution” under the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC) led by Mr. Rawlings.

The ex-President has however claimed innocence of the incident saying history has been “re-hashed” and “re-cooked” to make him and other innocent people look guilty.

Speaking at a forum in Kumasi, Rawlings said if he really wanted the judges dead, as some believed, he would not have waited until 1982 to do it.

“If I were blood thirsty as these people are claiming on 15 May 79 I could have ignited the thing and left it. 1979 when people were calling for blood I could have just let go and let people do the killings,” Rawlings said.

“How do I come back in the 80s when things have cooled down and say I want to kill judges? It was a terrible thing some of our people did. How do you choose how to knock me down without going too low?"

“I have enough true stories about these characters,” he added.

Addressing the issue, Kweku Baako told host Kwami Sefa Kayi on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo" that Mr. Rawlings cannot in any day at any time vindicate himself from the murders that occurred under his leadership, for which he played significant roles.

According to him, any soldier who overthrows a constitutionally elected government commits treason and the punishment is death.

Therefore, for Rawlings to be walking freely about is not just a miracle but also means that he is a "running illegality"; Mr. Baako stated.

“He is the luckiest Ghanaian ever. Any soldier who will overthrow a constitution with a gun, you’re a running illegality. Whether you like it or not and the law says that thing is punishable by death”.

“No soldier has any business any time to take a gun and overthrow a constitution or elected government. He has no such business. No one has asked them to do that. No one has invited. That’s why I say Rawlings is a running illegality himself but he is damn lucky. And if I were him, where I’ve reached with my age and so forth; I would cool down and let history flow”, he added.
