Kotoko Coach Akonnor Speaks On Possible Gyan Acquisition

The Porcupine Warriors boss talks about what it would mean to have the Ghana skipper at the club.

Asante Kotoko coach Charles 'CK' Akonnor says he will be glad to welcome Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan into the fold of the Kumasi-based outfit.

Gyan, 32, has long expressed his desire to play for the Porcupine Warriors before finally bowing out of the game.

Interestingly, the veteran striker, who currently plays for Turkish side Kayserispor, played for Accra-based Liberty Professionals during his time in the Ghana Premier League.

“Asamoah Gyan comes with a lot of packages and what he has achieved in his career will push the young ones to do more for the club,” Akonnor, who assumed Kotoko's coaching job only last week, said on Thursday at the unveiling of a partnership between Kotoko and Paradise Pac Drinking Water - a product produced by a company owned by Gyan.

“I will welcome Asamoah Gyan if he quits international football to play for Kotoko, even now."

In the twilight of his career, Gyan's illustrious football journey has seen him grace the pitch for the likes of English side Sunderland, French club Rennes and Italian outfit Udinese.

"It is a great honour to be part of the family," Gyan said at the event.
