Mamponghene Declares Support For The PFJ Programme

The Paramount Chief of Mampong Traditional Council, Daasebre Osei Bonsu II, has declared his unflinching for the government's flagship Planting for Food and Jobs programme.

Daasebre Osei Bonsu says he will make lands readily available for any person or individuals willing to be part of the PFJ initiative.

Whilst commending the government and the Ministry of Food and Agriculture for the implementation of the initiative, the Paramount Chief encouraged Ghanaians to patronize the programme to ensure it's success.

Addressing the Minister of Food and Agriculture, Hon. Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto and his entourage at his palace during a courtesy call on him, Daasebre Osei Bonsu II said food security should be a major priority for every country.

Daasebre Osei Bonsu particularly stressed the need for improvement in agricultural mechanization as government seeks to modernize the sector and make it attractive to the youth.

The Paramount Chief noted that the Mampong community has huge potentials for agriculture and therefore charged the Minister to make tractors and other mechanized tools available for the people to help them in their farming activities.

He also appealed to the Minister to consider the construct of two warehouses in the municipality as one will not be enough to accommodate the huge production expected in the coming seasons.

"I want your Ministry to consider adding one more warehouse to the one you are constructing because one will not be enough for us" He said.

On his part, the Minister of Food and Agriculture, Hon. Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto said government was committed to improving the lives of Ghanaian farmers whose activities were critical to the economy of the country.

He said the Planting for Food and Jobs programme was meant to change the face of Ghana's agriculture and transform the economy.
