MP And Peace Town Residents Give One Week Ultimatum To Waste Landfills Company

The Member of Parliament for Nsawam/Adoagyiri and residents of Peace Town in Nsawam/Adoagyiri have given Waste Landfills Company (a subsidiary of Jospong Group of companies) a one week ultimate to take necessary measures on its landfill sites at Nsumia and the old site at Peace Town to ensure the safety of residents.

He warned that failure to comply with the directive, will lead to a demonstration by the residents and himself (MP) against the company.

The ultimatum was given when residents of Peace Town Community in Ankwa Doboro in the Nsawam/Adoagyiri Constituency, the MP for Nsawam/Adoagyiri, Hon Frank Annoh- Dompreh, officials of the EPA and Officials of Waste Landfills Company held a meeting at Peace Town to discuss the challenges faced by residents as a result of dumping of waste by Waste Landfills Company at Nsumia and how the company is managing its old landfill site at Peace Town.

Hon Frank Annoh-Dompreh urged Waste Landfills Company to take all the necessary measures to manage the old landfill site at Peace Town and the new site at Nsumia to ensure the safety of the residents.

He threatened to mobilise the residents to embark on a demonstration against the company if it fails to live up to expectation.

The residents complained of bad odour, flies, mosquitoes and children suffering from typhoid due to the dumping of waste at the Landfill in the area.

Speaking at the meeting, the Acting Greater Accra West Regional Director of the EPA, Mrs Sally Biney advised the company to endeavor to work according to EPA regulations always to help safeguard the environment.

She urged the public to consider protection of the environment everyone's business which must be done with total commitment and understanding.

Hon Frank Annoh- Dompreh advised the Waste Landfills Company to put laterite on its landfill sites and carry out capping on the sites to avoid the spread of diseases.
