Minister of Information, Hon Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has at his first in the series of the innovative bi-weekly media briefing on Wednesday 21, 2018 revealed that the Eminent chiefs leading the mediation of peace in the protracted Dagbon chieftaincy dispute for 16 years will today present a roadmap for lasting peace to President Akufo-Addo at the Jubilee House.

President Kufour in 2006 established the committee of eminent chiefs and tasked them to lead mediation efforts between the parties with the view to finding a peaceful resolution to the matter.

The committee comprises the Asantehene Otumfour Osei Tutu II, the Nayiri- Mahamid Sheriga and the Yagbonwura Tuntumba Boresa the first. The differences between the parties have continued since the Kufour, Mills and Mahama eras.

But addressing the media, Hon. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah said President Akufo-Addo assuming office reiterated the commitment of his government to supporting a peaceful resolution of the matter.

Mr President also reiterated the common resolve shared by his Predecessors in supporting a peaceful resolution and committed that while supporting the process, he will not take sides but is keen on seeing this matter ended, so Dagbon can move forward peacefully”, he added.

According to the Information Minister, as the government of Ghana continued to provide the necessary support and facilitation to the mediation process, the President has now been informed by the committee of eminent chiefs that a roadmap has been arrived at, believing it to be the eventual peaceful resolution of the matter.

The roadmap is expected to be presented to President Akufo-Addo at noon today. It is our solemn expectation that the leadership of both sides will sign up to the roadmap as acceptable and our further expectation that the leadership of both sides will help in spreading the word to their various sides so that implementing the roadmap is smoothened for Dagbon to move forward”, he emphasized.

The Government of Ghana will put its resources and support at the disposal of the roadmap and ensure that we all can join the people of Dagbon in finding lasting peace and putting this matter behind us”, he stressed.

Meanwhile, President Akufo-Addo is set to issue an executive order on the protracted Dagbon chieftaincy crisis on Wednesday 21, 2018 to cement the decision of the Committee of Eminent Chiefs chaired by Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, with support from the overlord of Mamprugu, the Nayiri Naa Bohagu Abdulai Mahamid Sheriga and Yagbonwura Tuntumba Boresa I, mediating the dispute for the past 16 years.

The Committee has decided that both Abudu and Andani royal families be allowed to perform the funerals of the late Dagbon Kings at the old Gbewah palace in Yendi; thus, President Akufo-Addo is expected to make the announcement at a press conference at the Jubilee House which would be attended by the accredited representatives of the Abudu and Andani Royal families.
