A decision by the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the National Democratic Congress to demand GH¢ 420,000 filing and nomination fees from aspiring flagbearers, has been described as a scam by the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party.

Persons wishing to lead the opposition NDC into the 2020 elections are to come up with 20,000 cedis to pick nomination forms and 400,000 cedis as filing fees.

The fees, the NEC said, is to make up for the cost of organizing the primaries on January 19, 2019, but Mr. Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, believes the move has been made to scam the other aspirants to favour Mr. John Dramani Mahama.

The NPP scribe who is also called Chairman Wontumi accused Mr. John Aseidu Nketia and Mr. Ofosu Ampofo of scheming with former President Mahama to ensure he wins the contest by “foul means”.

Addressing the issue shortly after, the founder of the NDC, former President Rawlings called on the executives to scrap the fees, Mr. Antwi-Boasiako, stated that the intolerance level in the NDC hit the roof under the leadership of former President Mahama and for this reason, he can boldly predict that his (Rawlings’) call would fall on deaf ears.

“How on earth do you charge such a fee for internal primaries? I have no doubt we are witnessing such a q negative thing because Mahama has authorized it. He has forgotten the NDC is a party. He now sees it as cryptocurrency vendor to scam the other aspirants who want to challenge him”, Chairman Wontumi said.
