Couple Use Tricycle For Wedding

In this age when people are in the craze of having lavish weddings and splashing pictures over social media, a couple in Ghana decided to do something different which has received plaudits from many people.

The couple, Simon Dakudzi and Faustina Aklika (now Mrs. Dakudzi) went out of the ordinary to use a tricycle, locally referred to as “Aboboyaa” or “Tuk Tuk” as referred to in India, during their wedding.

The tricycle which is popular in Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional capital, was introduced in Ho, the Volta Regional capital, about two months ago.

The two, who attracted a lot of cheers as their well decorated wedding ‘getaway’ car rode through the principal streets of Ho, told this reporter that “there is nothing to be shy about. We are happy and that is all that matters.”

They indicated that although they both lived and worked in Accra, they had to have the wedding in Ho where the bride’s family lived. The tremendous excitement from people at the Remar Anointing Church at Deme Barrier near Ho, where the wedding was held, was a sight to behold.

Faustina, who was excited as she narrated their story, said: “We want to have a wedding that is memorable; something that others have not done yet within our own means.

She said during the planning, they made enquiries and realised that having a standard wedding would cost them a huge amount of money.

With three daughters from their past relationships – two for Simon and one for Fasutina, the new couple hopes to have a maximum of two more, preferably boys. They stressed understanding and compromise as key to happiness.

They have decided to save the rest of their money to build a house, saying “that will give us some peace of mind instead of an expensive wedding that will leave us with debts.”
