Spio, Nurudeen Pick Up Nomination Forms, Goosie Tanoh, Kojo Bonsu Yet To Pick

The campaign team for National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer hopeful, Ekow Spio-Garbrah and Alhaji Nurudeen, have picked up nomination forms of their respective candidates.

After picking up the forms on Thursday at the NDC party headquarters in Accra, Spio-Garbrah’s team called for a more level playing field in the already controversial primary contest.

“Our candidate’s request, which is a humble one… is that there should be fair play,” a member of the Spio 2020 team, George Tetteh Wayo, said to Citi News.

“Let’s just organize this flagbearer race at that level where everybody will see that it is a fair contest and whoever is destined to win, so shall it be,” Mr. Wayo appealed.

Businessman Alhaji Nurudeen Idrissu, had his forms picked for him.

The figure is however significantly higher than the fee of GHc 100,000 some aspirants sought when they petitioned the party’s Council of Elders over the high filing fees.

In the petition, the nine aspirants proposed that fees for collection of forms be GHc 5,000 whiles the filing fees be GHc 100,000.

The NDC reduced the filing fee after a proposal by its Council of Elders. The Functional Executive Committee (FEC) acting on behalf of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party, agreed to the amount proposed.

Female contestants are now to pay GHc150, 000 while Persons With Disabilities shall pay an amount of GHc 100, 000.

The deadline for the picking of nomination forms has also been extended to Saturday, December 8, 2018 from Tuesday, December 4. The new date for the primaries is now Saturday 26th January 2019.

Those yet to pick their forms are Goosie Tanoh, Kojo Bonsu and Elikplim Agbemava, and they have only Saturday to do so, since Friday is a public holiday.
