#Citizenlead: Residents of Weija Living In Fear Of An Epidemic After Being Engulfed In Filth (PHOTOS)

Residents of Poultry Farm near New Weija, a suburb of Accra, are living in fear of a possible health scare following a dumping site that has been left unattended to for a year now.

The said land, belonging to one Madam Lucy, turned into a dumping site after she requested refuse collectors to dump their garbage at the site to fill up the land at a fee.

According to residents, they thought the owner would have used sand to cover the dump site with the money accrued as earlier indicated, but to their shock, that has not been done and several calls on her to do as promised have proved futile.

When Peacefmonline.com contacted Madam Lucy, she confirmed asking for the rubbish to fill her land, but added she went for permit from the assembly before doing so.

She also confirmed comments that she promised to buy sand with the money collected but "the total amount realised could not cover the entire area".

She however denied claims that she channeled the money into other ventures.

When the assembly was contacted, they confirmed issuing the permit but said it was after officials queried Madam Lucy for turning her land into a dumping site.

Per documents sighted by peacefmonline.com, the amount realised from the refuse collection, is more than GHC50,000; an amount Madam Lucy denies.

Meanwhile, the MCE of the area, Mr Patrick K.B. Kumor in a follow up interview with Peacefmonline.com indicated that Madam Lucy has been given up to the end of the year to cover the land.

"We have given her ample time to cover the land; failure to do so, the assembly will take over the land" he added.
