Referendum On New Regions Has Nothing To Do With Parties - Minister
THE BRONG Ahafo Regional Minister, Evans Opoku Bobie, has urged all citizens in the Tano North and South districts to come out in their numbers to vote in the upcoming referendum on the creation of Ahafo Region slated for 27th December, 2018, saying “the referendum has nothing to do with political parties”.
Mr. Bobie said this yesterday when he called on the chief and people of Bechem Traditional Area to introduce himself as the new regional minister. He took the opportunity to explain to them some projects government has undertaken in the area and those that have been approved to commence.
The Omanhene of Bechem Traditional Area, Nana Ofosu Akoto Gyeabour II, commended President Akufo-Addo for elevating the deputy minister to a substantive regional minister.
He said “Nananom are advising and educating the people to vote ‘yes’ in the upcoming referendum”.
Mr. Bobie praised the people of the region for winning the national best farmer award and the national best cocoa farmer for 2018. He urged them to work harder to win more national laurels for the region.
On projects in the municipality, he said government had started implementing ‘one home one toilet’, which is basically aimed at eradicating open defecation in the rural areas.
He added that the Akufo-Addo administration would fulfil every campaign promise it made to Ghanaians before the end of its tenure.
In an interview with DAILY GUIDE, the Municipal Chief Executive of the area, Collins Afunam, stressed that the ‘one home one toilet’ initiative is meant to eradicate open defecation in the district.
According to him, Tano South is one of the districts in the region to benefit from the project. Fourteen other districts will benefit from it as well.
In all, 202 households in eight communities are to benefit. The project is being sponsored by the Government of Ghana in collaboration with the United State Agency for International Development (USAID).
“It is free. All that the households need to do is to dig pits for the plastic tanks to be provided,” he said.
