Jostling For Agyarko’s Seat Normal But… NPP Elder

National Executive member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has said it is normal for people to declare their intentions to replace late Member of Parliament of Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency, Emmanuel Kyeremateng Agyarko.

Hackman Owusu-Agyemang however, urged supporters to respect tradition by at least allowing the MP to be buried before engaging in discussions on who replaces him.

Supporters in the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency are divided as two factions have emerged, pushing for the wife and mistress of the late MP to be made the candidate of the party in the by-election.

Mr Agyarko who was serving his second term in Parliament on the ticket of the NPP died last month, leaving many in a state of shock.

But even before he is buried, some members of the party want to have a say on who replaces him.

But speaking on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem Thursday, Mr Owusu-Agyemang called for restraint among supporters of the factions.

He noted that though such competition is healthy, it could mar the legacy of the late MP if supporters don’t manage their expectations.

“Campaign and jostling for position is a matter of cause but let’s wait for the appropriate time,” the NPP elder stated.

Mr Owusu-Agyemang is, however, confident the National Executive Committee of the party will set the ground rules to ensure a smooth replacement of their late MP.
