Renewal Of Commitment Crucial To Victory 2020 — Prof. Delle

The Convention People’s Party has called for the renewal of commitment to the party as it strives to win the 2020 elections.

It said based on the performance of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in government over the past 26 years, the fortunes of the CPP looked brighter but only with the renewal of commitment by members to the party.

The National Chairman of the CPP, Prof. Edmund Delle, who made the call in an interview with the Daily Graphic in Accra, insisted that it was time for every CPP member, supporter and sympathiser to come on board to make the CPP visible, attractive and dominant to win the 2020 elections.

He said the CPP members must not only show in words but in deeds if the CPP is to realise its avowed goal of winning the 2020 elections.

Funding challenge

In Prof. Delle’s opinion, one of the key challenges facing the CPP was that of funding.

“Funding of the party is difficult and it is incumbent on party members, supporters and sympathisers to contribute towards the party’s growth,” he said.

He said there was the need for all Nkrumaists to avoid making “CPP as a party where during congresses has so many delegates filling congress grounds, only for the party to be deserted soon after the congress and when the actual work must begin for national elections”.

“From now to December 2020, the CPP will do everything possible to ensure that we grow the party,” the national chairman assured.

He disclosed that the party had set up a Logistics Committee under the chairmanship of Mr Kwesi Pratt to raise funds and logistics for the party.

He said plans were also far advanced to re-launch its newspaper ‘The Dawn’ to promote the party’s interest.

He further disclosed that the party had also taken an inventory of its offices across the country and that the party was determined to be present in all the constituencies.

“This time around we need to face the reality,” he stated, adding that “the CPP will need all hands on deck”.

Breaking the NPP/NDC duopoly

Prof. Delle noted that it would not be easy to do away with the duo politics of the NPP and NDC except through hard work by CPP members.

The national chairman postulated that the country was so divided by the NPP-NDC politics and there was the need for change for a united country.

“Ghanaians are looking for real change and politics of hope and not politics of despair. This is what CPP offers Ghanaians which has as its mantra ‘everybody matters’,” he said.

As politicians, Prof. Delle noted that the welfare of Ghanaians must be their supreme interest.

The national chairman said “leadership is modesty, humility and thinking of the welfare of the people at all times’. He, therefore, called on CPP members to sacrifice today for a better tomorrow.
