Regional Minister, Others Call For Replay Of J.A. Kufuor Cup Match

Primeval Media- organizers of the J.A. Kufuor Cup match between Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Obuasi Ashgold, has said, the proposed replay of the match, was at the instruction of Mr. Simon Osei-Mensah, Ashanti Regional Minister and other stake holders.

The match failed to produce a winner after 120 minutes of action, last Sunday, with the organizers calling for a replay, amidst protests from fans and media.

A statement signed by Jeffery Asare, Executive Director of Primeval Media said, the Regional Minister, in consultation with the headline sponsors, Universal Merchant Bank (UMB) and the two clubs, decided on the replay after 120 minutes of action.

“Mr. Osei-Mensah, in a meeting with stakeholders, insisted that, the replay would further build unity among the two clubs, as animosity between them in recent times, had not been the best,” the statement added.

The statement said, the Regional Minister at the meeting noted that, the massive attendance provided, an opportunity for the region to whip up the support and interest of people in football after months of starvation, following the Anas Expose.

The minister also noted that, it was a critical opportunity to revive and build a strong support base for the two teams in the region, he supervises.

The statement however apologized to fans, the media and the general public for the unfortunate incident.

It also expressed appreciation to Mr. Isaac Kwame Asiamah, Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr. Simon Osei-Mensah, Ashanti Regional Minister for the successful organization the match.
