New Naval Chief assures Ghanaians of security at sea

Rear Admiral Seth Amoamo, the new Chief of Naval Staff, has pledged to intensify patrols at sea to ward off any intended attacks on the country.

He gave the assurance that the security of Ghanaians is guaranteed as the morale among the Navy was high to defend the nation.

Rear Admiral Amoamo was speaking at a ceremony to take over command as the new Chief of the Naval Staff at the Naval Headquarters in Accra.

He took over from Rear Admiral Peter Kofi Faidoo, who assumed the position of Chief of Naval Staff three years ago and retired this year after 39 years of service.

Until his rise to the current position Rear Admiral Amoamo was the Commandant of the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College.

Rear Admiral Amoamo pledged to provide honest, transparent, accountable and professional leadership to continue to move the Ghana Navy forward.

He lauded Rear Admiral Faidoo for laying a solid foundation for him to continue with the good works, describing him as a transformational leader who had engendered pride and confidence among the personnel.

Rear Admiral Faidoo, on his part, said he took over as the Chief of the Naval Staff three years ago when there were numerous challenges facing the Navy.

The challenges range from the lack of accommodation for personnel, ships that needed different levels of repairs, office buildings that needed urgent renovation and the lack of uniforms.

He said the Navy had made significant strides in tackling the accommodation challenges.

Rear Admiral Faidoo said through the Ministry of Water Resources, Works and Housing, a 368 unit accommodation for officers and ratings in Tema had been completed and commissioned successfully.

“Through dedication and relentless efforts from the navy staff, we are able to sustain operational ships at sea continuously as a deterrent posture to deal with the current asymmetric threats at sea.”

“We have also expanded the coverage of our maritime surveillance and intelligence outfit by establishing additional maritime operational centres at Aflao in the Volta Region and New Town in the Greater Accra Region at our Eastern and Western borders respectively,” he said.
