The General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah has described as ‘good news’ the fact that President Akufo-Addo is losing popularity among the masses.

His comment comes on the back of a research finding by the Political Science Department of the University of Ghana.

The research, which sampled about 5,000 Ghanaians nationwide, indicated among other things that President Nana Akufo-Addo will defeat former President John Dramani Mahama hands down if elections were held today.

The report said President Akufo-Addo would have led the poll with 49.3% with John Mahama trailing behind with 33.3%.

Speaking to this issue during a panel discussion on Peace FM morning show ‘Kokrokoo’ with sit-in host, Nana Yaw Kesse, General Mosquito as he is popularly called said the results of the research is evident that majority of Ghanaians no longer want Akufo-Addo as President.

“…his rating is good news for us…he has gone back to the level he was few years ago. So the NPP should not be happy about this report because the popularity of Akufo-Addo is dwindling. NPP should not rejoice over this survey…the bottom line is that 51+ do not want Akufo-Addo as President” he indicated.

However, the General Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu disagrees.

John Boadu who was reacting to this on the same platform said, “I am surprised NDC now believes in research…he should not give me that argument. If (former) President Mahama who is not even in power and has not been voted for yet had 33.3% then they; NDC should be worried and not NPP”
