The Member of Parliament for Navrongo Central, Joseph Kofi Adda, has hailed leaders of the Navrongo Muslim community for their role in ensuring peace in the area.

According to Mr. Adda, leaders of the Islamic faith and their community have been instrumental in making peace prevail despite several situations that could have jeopardized the serenity of the area.

He said but for the prayers and commitment to peace demonstrated by the Navrongo Muslim community and all stakeholders, the burial of the late Paramount Chief and the enskinment of the subsequent Overlord were developments that could have thrown the area into turmoil.

Speaking at a brief ceremony when he joined several believers of Islam to pray at the Navrongo Central Mosque Friday, Mr. Adda noted that the role of the Muslim community in peacebuilding could not be overlooked. He urged the leaders to continuously pray for peace for the area.

“We thank God for the peace in Navrongo. Because of your prayers and commitment to ensuring a peaceful community, this town is very peaceful. It is heartwarming to know that we conducted the burial of the late paramount chief of Navrongo peacefully and then enskinned a new one without the trouble of any kind.

“I know this was possible because of the prayers Imam and his people said to God on behalf of the people of Navrongo. I know the efforts of the Imam and other stakeholders have been very helpful in ensuring that there is peace. I will urge Imam continues to pray for Navrongo and its people” he stated.

Mr. Adda later made a donation of 600 bags of cement towards the construction of a new structure for the Navrongo Central Mosque. The donation was in fulfilment of a pledge Vice President, Dr. Bawumia and the MP made to the people of Navrongo.

He announced that aside from the donation towards the central Mosque project; plans are in the offing to construct another Mosque near the Navrongo market to ease congestion and to give Muslims in the area an alternative place of worship.

Mr. Adda also disclosed to the gathering his partnership with some building professionals from Kuwait who he indicated will soon hit the site of the project to give their expertise in erecting the mosque.

“This donation is from the Vice President, Dr. Bawumia who pledged during his campaign visit to assist you to build the central mosque. So this donation is in honour of that pledge”.

“I, as your son have also added my donation to Dr. Bawumia own to make it a total of 600 bags. This not all, we will continue to do more to assist in building the mosque. There are plans to build a small mosque near the market so that people can go there to observe prayers”.

”As I speak to you, some professionals from Kuwait will soon visit the site to assist with the project. They were here to do the feasibility studies and they will be back again” Mr. Adda said.

Municipal Chief Imam of the Navrongo area, Abdul Karimu Saeed, who received the donation, thanked Dr. Bawumia and Mr. Adda for honouring their pledge. He said the donation had come at a time when it was most needed.

He continued that the construction of the Central Mosque has been a top priority of the entire Navrongo Muslim community and the donation will help greatly in the execution of the project.

Abdul Karimu Saeed added that the donation will be used for the purpose for which it is intended and appealed to the government not to relax in its efforts to make lives better for people living in the Zongos.
