Kotoko supporters urged to paint Kumasi red ahead of Coton Sport game

Supporters of Asante Kotoko, Ghana’s sole competitor in this year’s continental club competition, have been urged to paint the city of Kumasi red, ahead of their second leg encounter with Cameroonian opponents, Coton Sport De Garoua.

Kumasi Asante Kotoko, defied all odds to gain a crucial 3-2 away victory over Coton Sport De Garoua on Sunday afternoon, at the Military Stadium in Yaoundé, in the final eliminator to the group stage of the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) Confederations Cup.

The victory gives the record Ghanaian champions, an important advantage coming into the second leg on Friday, January 18 at the Baba Yara Stadium, as they seek to reach the group stage of the competition, for the first time since 2008.

With their focus on reaching the group stage, Mr George Amoako, the Chief Executive Officer of the club, has called on the supporters to charge the atmosphere around the match city by painting Kumasi red.

“We are known out there as a big club with a huge support base that wears red to the stadium whenever the team plays,” Mr Amoako said on the club’s website.

“Our team identifies with the red colour and we want the fans to create that charged atmosphere to prove the true identity and clout of Asante Kotoko when they arrive.”

“We want all our supporters and sympathisers to wear red attires throughout this week until the end of the game on Sunday.” he said.

“Let’s get our red flags, bandanas, scarfs, ribbons, bungles, wristbands, earrings, spectacles and all the red adornments out.”

“Let’s give them an idea of what they are up against even before we face them at Baba Yara Stadium,” he added.
