Planting For Food And Jobs Was Number One Flagship Programme In 2018

The Association of Aides to Regional Chairmen of the New Partriotic Party commends the President, H.E Akufo Addo, the Agric Minister, staff of the Ministry of Agriculture, the hardworking Ghanaian farmers and all other stakeholders for making the planting for food and jobs programme a success.

Despite the great strides the Free SHS made, the Planting for food and jobs programme was undoubtedly the most remarkable and outstanding flagship programme for the year 2018.

The PFJ programme since its inception has provided about 1 million direct and indirect jobs and also contributed immensely to the economic growth of our country.

In 2018, for the first time in the history of our country, there were export of foods like plantain, maize and other food items to our neighbouring countries like Burkina Faso, Mali etc.

It must also be noted that, food production and food accessibility increased exponentially in 2018. Citing some few examples; at Bosomefreho in 2018, a total of 2750 to the 197 bags of rice in 2016. There was vastly, over 1000% increasement in rice production in that area. The story were not different in other parts of the country.

Thoughout the year, there were a number of significant increase in the production of creals and grains, fruits and vegetables, tubers of yam, cassava, plantain etc. in our country. Food were primarily abundant!

To quote the few who have acknowledged the great strides of the Planting for food and jobs programme;

*1. Paramount Chief of Tepa Traditional Area.*

'because of the planting for food and jobs programme we have so much food that if you not careful and you come here to cause trouble we will use food to chase you out'

*2. Alhaji Yussif Mohammed Pangabu, former NDC MP, Ejura Sekyedumase recently said*

'Look here my brother, since this government introduced the PFJ programme, I have seen several members of the NDC in this constituency who have benefited from the supply of the inputs. So I don't understand why my party continues to speak against it. Adding that, "he bought my first Land Cruiser through PFJ programme

These are clear evidence of the success of the programme.

We must eequally admit that the planting for food and jobs programme has these successes largely due to the proactiveness and efficient leadership and management of the sector Minister of Agric, his Deputies, able Staff at the Ministry of Agriculture and the hardworking Ghanaian farmers.

Aside the ready market and export of the farm products from the PFJ, what makes the programme unique is how well the Ministry of Agriculture has collaborated with the Ministry of Development and Special Initiative to build warehouses to store the food products for future use. A visionary approach by these Ministries of our country under the current NPP government which cares about the unborn generation.

Thoughout 2018, there were effective monitoring, timely delivery of seedlings, fertilizers and much hard work from all stakeholders to ensure the success we see with PFJ.

We wish to encourage you all as you keep delivering efficiently for the country.

Bravo to all stakeholders!
