Former Central Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Allotey Jacobs has asked the Government of Ghana to refund monies owed customers of Menzgold by the gold dealership company.

According to Allotey Jacobs, it behoves the Akufo-Addo government to pay back all the monies because he is the father of all Ghanaians.

He noted that the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), under the leadership of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, was voted into power by Ghanaians which means some customers of the defunct Menzgold were among the electorates whose thumbprint secured victory for the party in the 2016 elections.

Speaking to sit-in host Nana Yaw Kesseh on Peace FM's 'kokrokoo' programme, Allotey Jacobs noted that Ghana's governance system is a "government by the people for the people", therefore telling President Akufo-Addo and his government to empathize with the customers of Menzgold and pay them back their investments in the company.

“The government must ensure they pay back the locked monies belonging to the customers of Menzgold . . . Our governance system or the democracy that we’ve adopted says government by the people for the people . . . So if people have voted for the government, you’re supposed to seek the welfare of the people. They voted you into office. They have entrusted their security to you. They have entrusted you with their welfare,” he said.
