The final funeral rites for the late Francis Kwaku Sasu, Atinka TV’s former News Editor, and a retired Broadcaster of Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), was held on Saturday at the Love Presbyterian Church at Asofan, a suburb of Accra.
Francis Sasu, who died on November 21, 2018, was 67 and left behind a wife, Mrs Comfort Sasu, and two children; Jefferson Sasu and Juliana Oforiwaa Sasu.
Persons from the inky fraternity including management and staff of Atinka Media Village and sympathizers took turns to file pass the remains of the late Sasu to pay their last respect.
The Family would proceed to the Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Obo-Kwahu in the Eastern Region to bury his mortal remains after the funeral rites.
Mr Affail Monney, the President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), in a tribute, described the late Sasu as a real and rare gentleman who had contributed immensely to the growth and development of the media in Ghana, particularly, the grooming of many of the new generation of journalists in the country.
“He was very dedicated, committed and diligent to his duty, apart from being respectful to all persons, irrespective of their age, rank, race or any other inclination,” he said.
For many years, the late Sasu served as a member of GJA’s Media Awards Committee with utmost dedication.
“It is for these reasons that the GJA finds the death of Mr Sasu a big loss to the media fraternity in Ghana and the country as a whole.”
Mr Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, the Managing Director of Atinka Media Village, extolled the late Sasu’s hard work and commitment to duty, stressing that despite his age and wealth of experience, he had respect for all.
He said Mr Sasu’s demise was a huge loss to the family and the inky fraternity, adding; “We should be consoled by the fact that Mr Sasu impacted many lives on earth, particularly young journalists”.
Mr Sasu’s journalism career spanned over four decades, which saw him working closely with former President Jerry John Rawlings as the presidential reporter from 1983 to January 7, 2001.
Mr Sasu worked with the National Lotteries from 1973 to 1981, and after eight productive years, joined to the GBC.
Mr Sasu retired at GBC and joined ZTV from 2014 to 2016 as the Head of News, and then got engaged in 2016 at Atinka Media Village.
