Spio-Garbrah Reacts To Position On The Ballot Paper

The position on the ballot paper during every election is often given divine interpretation by the candidates in their own way and then blend it with their campaign messages.

The flagbearer aspirants of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Wednesday completed the balloting process with Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin picking the first position. Nurideen Iddrisu, John Dramani Mahama, Sylvester Mensah, Ekwow Spio-Garbrah, Goosie Tanoh and Prof. Joshua Alabi took the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th positions respectively.

Reacting to this, Dr Spio Garbrah said even though he is not moved by the supposed significance of the numbers, the number five means 'we will be doing hardwork for the party and the country'.

"God created us with five fingers (on each hand) to work so number five means we will do hardwork for the party and the country when elected…it is Spio’s time".

According to him, "I have been a constituency secretary after being a minister; it shows how humble I am. I have done variety of works; a farmer, religious worker, government worker, worked internationally and so I have a wide range of experience and I can do the work. If we want the NPP out of government after four years, we should look for a candidate that can lead the party for eight years"

Dr Spio-Garbrah was interacting with Nana Yaw Kesse, sit-in host of Peace FM morning show 'Kokrokoo', Thursday.

Meanwhile, the party will be voting for their preferred candidate to lead them ahead of the 2020 election on Saturday, February 23, 2019.

A communication from the party indicated that the first notice of the poll will be made available on January 26, 2019, with the final print done on January 28, 2019, while the printing of the ballot papers will begin on February 3.
