‘President Passionate About Education, Development’

The Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr Simon Kweku Tetteh, has said that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is passionate and concerned about education.

That he said was because the President believed quality education was key to development in the country and his government would ensure that it puts in the needed resources that would promote quality education delivery in the country.

He said a country that gave quality education to its citizenry promoted quality human resource for its development and the establishment of the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy of the government was a manifestation of the President’s love and passion for education.

“The President once said I am in a hurry and as his representative at Lower Manya Krobo, I will ensure that I follow to the letter, the development agenda of the President and his government by providing the needed input to enhance the well being of the citizenry and promote quality education for the youth now and the generations to come in this municipality,’’ Mr Tetteh added.

Handover

The MCE made the remarks when he handed over a sixunit classroom block and 100 pieces of mono desks meant for the Yokwenor Municipal Assembly Primary School to the Lower Manya Krobo Education Directorate of the Ghana Education Service (GES) at Yokwenor in the municipality.

The project was constructed with funding from the District Development Fund (DDF).

He said the President had urged his representatives in the metropolitan, municipal and districts assemblies to continue with development projects in their respective areas and that was why his administration at Lower Manya saw the need to tackle school infrastructure in order to create a conducive environment for effective teaching and learning.

Mr Tetteh also mentioned the completion of the Yonguase and Akosombo Ketem Municipal Assembly Primary schools and the Oborpah Djekiti nine unit- teachers’ bungalow and were handed over to the GES in 2018.

According to the MCE, due to the dilapidated structure of the school, most of the pupils at the Yokwenor community moved to other areas for their primary education and urged parents in the community to bring their children back to the school.

“There is no excuse now because the structure is nice and beautiful and nobody should play politics with it because the school belongs to the Yokwenor community and not any particular political party’’, he emphasised.

Reciprocate gesture

Mr Tetteh recalled that it was during the same government’s regime in 2004 that the junior high school of Yokwenor community was put up and that showed the love the New Patriotic Party (NPP) had for them and appealed to the people in the area to reciprocate the same love and gesture for the party in 2020 to continue with its good work.

He said any assembly that worked with its party Member of Parliament (MP) made it easier and also appealed to the people in the constituency to vote for the NPP candidate next year to make things in the administration of the municipality easier.

He, however, appealed to the people to honour their tax obligations by paying their property rates and levies for the assembly to get enough funds for its mandated activities in the municipality adding, “Help me to continue the transformation agenda’’.

The Divisional Chief of Piengwa, Nene Tetteh Zogli III, who witnessed the handover, lauded the assembly for the structure and the modern places of convenience in his area.

He appealed to the assembly for the rehabilitation of the Nene Zogli road in the community to make it motorable.

The Head teacher of the school, Ms. Rose Amoatey, also appealed to the parents in the community to bring their children to the school as the staff would ensure quality teaching and learning.

She also stressed the need for the community to help protect the edifice for a longer lifespan.

The acting Municipal Director of Education for Lower Manya Krobo, Ms. Vera Adobea Takyi, who received the keys of the structure, thanked the assembly for fulfilling its obligation and assured that quality education would be attained.
