A mechanized water system built at Mesomagor, a predominantly farming community in the Assin South District, to supply uninterrupted safe drinking water to a population of about 3,000, has been inaugurated amid the expression of joy by the people.
It comes with an overhead water storage tank and cost over GH¢27,000 to complete.
The project was initiated and funded by the Ghana Heritage Conservation Trust (GHCT).
The Trust has a mandate to promote socio-economic growth in communities sited near the Kakum Conservation Reserve Area and other tourist sites in the Central Region.
The inhabitants of Mesomagor and other adjoining communities have over the centuries been struggling with the lack of potable water - drinking from polluted streams.
Inaugurating the facility, Osabarima Kwesi Atta II, Omanhene of Oguaa Traditional Area and Chairman of the GHCT Advisory Committee, spoke of the Trust's determination to bring development to the Reserve’s fringe communities.
He expressed excitement about the relief the project had brought to the people.
The other high point is that it would make significant contribution to efforts at achieving the Sustainable Development Goals - ensuring availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all.
He reminded the community leaders to see to it that it was properly maintained.
Mr Derrick Owusu Ambrose, the District Chief Executive (DCE), praised the contractors for the timely completion of the project and the GHCT for the intervention.
Nana Kojo Obeng II, the chief, said they grateful to the GHCT and promised water system would be well maintained.
