Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Majority leader, Hon. Osei-Kyei Mensah-Bonsu has said that parliament will reconvene tomorrow.

Speaking on Okay FM's 'Ade Akye Abia' programme Monday, he explained that ahead of their reconvening tomorrow, he is meeting with the various sector Ministers to discuss other government businesses which have been brought before the House.

He said on top of their agenda will be the Right to Information Bill. 

"We were working on the bill before we went on break but as we resume, we will see to it that it is passed by the House within the shortest possible time," he told Kwame Nkrumah.

The RTI Bill, when passed, is expected to make information easily accessible by the media and Ghanaians to help the fight against corruption.

It has, however, been in legislation for well over 17 years due to the failure of successive governments to ensure its passage.

It was first drafted 22 years ago under the auspices of the Institute of Economic Affairs, IEA.

The draft Executive Bill was subsequently reviewed in 2003, 2005 and 2007 but it was never laid in Parliament until February 5, 2010.

Subsequently, it was withdrawn to review some clauses.

Advocacy groups have been putting pressure on Ghana’s legislators to have the Bill passed but this has not yielded any positive results until now.
