Ghana Still Under Colonialism; We Become "Irrational" When Set Free - Nana Ofori Owusu

Aspiring National Chairman of the Progressive People's Party (PPP), Nana Ofori Owusu has lambasted government and the entire nation for embracing what he terms "neo-colonialism" policies.

According to Nana Ofori Owusu, Ghana, in particular and Africa at large, is still under oppression from the Western World.

He was commenting on issues regarding conditionalities by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and other international entities that grant loans to developing countries.

Speaking to Kwami Sefa Kayi, host of Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo' Morning Show, Nana Ofori Owusu wondered why it should take a foreigner to prompt the country to do what is right and needful at all times.

To him, the country should be able to fend for itself and develop social interventions without influence from the Western world and international bodies like the IMF.

When will the African be able to think for and do things for themselves without instructions from our European masters? We’re still under colonialism because when they set us free or when they lose the rope, then we become irrational. We behave as if we don’t understand anything,” he stated.

He advised the government to strengthen systems in the economy and have proper structures in place to address the concerns and challenges of the Ghanaian citizenry.

Governance requires discipline…Until we strengthen our systems as a people and then take away the colorization, we won't have a strong system," he said.
