Adams Murder: Don’t Use The Law To Abuse Afoko’s Human Rights - Lawyer

One of the Counsels of Gregory Afoko, lawyer Nana Yaw Osei has bemoaned the new dimension of the murder trial of his client as the case was on the brink of closing by getting the final ruling of the judge.

According to him, major parts of the case against Afoko has been done as the state prosecutors have already exhausted their 14 witnesses, while the accused witness has also made his statement in court; remaining the final ruling of the judge.

“This is not something to be happy about. Do you know by May 2019, Afoko would have been in prison for 4 years? Someone has been accused and prosecuted and trial has gone far to the extent that the prosecutors of the case called 14 witnesses; they are done and then the accused also has presented his witness and so what remained was the final ruling of the judge to decide the fate of Gregory Afoko but now, the case has been discontinued”, he bemoaned.

Speaking on Okay FM’s Ade Akye Abia, lawyer Nana Yaw Osei insisted that the State is taking undue advantage of the law which permits the Attorney-General to discontinue the case which has put Afoko in prison custody for almost 4 years and then start afresh.

“If the fresh trial does not implicate Afoko, then it means the law has been used to abuse his human right or freedom. It is true that the law is taking its course but if it turns out he is not guilty, then what? So it is not something to be excited about that the Attorney-General will do this at this crucial point of the trial”, he argued.

He asserted that those who were privy to the statements of the various witnesses presented by the State prosecutors in court know the direction of the case as in the minds of the lawyers of the accused knew the case against Afoko will not favour the State; hence, the move by the State to discontinue and start afresh.
