The family of Gregory Afoko says their son is “innocent” and also “disappointment and outraged at last minute filing of a Nolle Prosequoi by the Attorney-General”.

The family’s spokesman in an interview with NEAT FM’s morning show programme ‘Ghana Montie’ noted that “the state has not been fair with our son”.

According to Robert Atong Asekabta, “some powerful person[s] within the NPP want their son to be found guilty and jailed by all means”.

It would be recalled that the former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Upper East Regional Chairman, Adams Mahama, was attacked in front of his home in Bolgatanga with acid leading to his death in May 2015.

Investigations disclosed that his death was allegedly caused by two persons - Mr. Gregory Afoko and Mr. Asabke Alangdi.

Mr. Alangde, however, fled the country days after the murder.

On Monday, the Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, disclosed that security agencies working in collaboration with Interpol have arrested Mr. Alangde in Ivory Coast after over a year of surveillance and search during which period he moved camps from Burkina Faso to Ivory Coast.

But Robert Atong Asekabta told host Kwesi Aboagye that, “there is a motive to have Gregory suffer a crime he has not committed.”

 “Gregory Afoko is being tortured, his spirit has left him, why are they doing that to him?” he questioned.

Gregory Afoko is the brother of former Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Paul Afoko.
