NPP will not have it easy this time round - Barlon

Mr Kobby Barlon, the Deputy National Organiser of the Opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), said the Party will monitor closely every ballot to be cast at the forthcoming Ayawaso West Wuogun Constituency by-election on January 31.

He said: “The New Patriotic Party (NPP) will not have it easy this time around as the NDC will not allow any foreign voter to cast a vote in that constituency.”

Mr Barlon said this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) to debunk media allegation that the NDC was considering boycotting the by-election because the Electoral Commission (EC) did not respond to petitions put before it bordering on the Voters’ Register.

He said the EC rather responded, thankfully, to all the letters written to it and “the NDC, as a Party, will take part in the by-election come Thursday, January 31”.

“Times have changed and the NPP will not have it easy as before. We are going to monitor every single ballot that will be cast on that day,” he added.

The NDC complained that there was a disparity of 1,165 voters when the Party compared the figures on the PDF form with that of the printed version of the Voters Register of the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency, which was presented to it by the Electoral Commission.

That, Mr Barlon said, necessitated the Party to petition the EC to address the discrepancy accordingly.

He said the EC’s explanation to the petition indicated that the additional 1,165 voters include special voters and transfer voters, which were, hitherto, not included in the PDF.
