NDC Demands Resignation of IGP

The National Democratic Congress is demanding the immediate resignation of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) following the recent attack on their Member of Parliament and some party members at the residence of Delali Brempong, parliamentary candidate for the Ayawaso West Wuogon constiuency.

According to them, there is total security failure in the country.

Speaking on Okay FM's 'Ade Akye Abia' programme, Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Boamah Otukonor explained that the IGP should also offer an explanation to the party as to the identify and specific duty of the security officers in Police uniforms alleged to be members of the NPP's 'Invincible Forces' during the by-election.

"There is total anarchy in this country and the IGP should be held responsible for everything that has happened.

"We are ready to pick up arms if things should continue this way," he stressed.

Seven persons were injured after shots were fired at the Bawaleshie polling centre during Thursday's by-election.

Several security personnel wearing black masks and shirts labelled NSC (National Security Council) stormed the polling station and began firing shots in the air trying to control a disturbance.

Meanwhile, former President John Dramani Mahama has sounded a word of caution to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) that they [NDC] will “match them boot for boot” if they do not desist from attacking their members.

Mr Mahama who gave the warning at a meeting with supporters in the Adaklu Constituency said, “We are not going to joke in 2020 and I’m sounding a warning to the NPP – we are going to match them boot for boot."
