'Masked' Security Personnel Were Deployed From My Outfit - Bryan Acheampong

Minister of State in-charge of National Security, Bryan Acheampong has confirmed his outfit deployed the masked security men present at the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-elections.

According to him, the men were deployed based on reliable information to his outfit concerning the by-election at the Bawalashie polling centre.

“We deployed all kinds of security forces in operation depending on the information we had from the polling grounds, there were some in uniforms and some in plain clothes. This is not a new directive, it happens all the time,” he stated.

The Member of Parliament [MP] for Abetifi Constituency in the Eastern Region when asked whether his men deployed were as well masked, he admitted and said; “Absolutely, you saw them there, they were not hiding but security men. You see when we get information we need to prepare for the intelligence that we have received to deploy men who are with us, and some of them had mask. Is not like they came from somewhere or some of them were engaged and put at places to cause violence, they were part of the security personnel we deployed yesterday on the grounds”.

In an interview with Citi FM news, Mr. Acheampong indicated that investigations will be made into the issue making sure any33 victim is punished according to the laws of the state.

“There was pre-election security noting that was agreed that no motor bike will be allowed in and around the polling stations and all political parties are encouraged not to let their supporters do that.

“We have a situation where 15 motor bikes led by an honoring member of parliament to a particular polling station, so we went to found out how come the information didn’t go down there,” he added.
