Asantehene Sets Up Committee To Probe KNUST Vandalism

The Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has set up a 3-member committee to probe the October 2018 riot by some students of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

The Committee is set to begin work next week.

The Asantehene who doubles as the Chancellor of the KNUST made this known during a Special Congregation held at the KNUST on Saturday, February 2, 2019 for post graduate students.

According to him, “I will in the course of next week advise the council of its inauguration to enable them start work. The Committee shall thoroughly investigate the event surrounding the tragedy of October 22nd, 2018 and their report should help us chart a course into a future that will make us not repeat the embarrassing episode. The Committee will be independent and will be given the freedom to do their work without any interference”.

If you may recall, a peaceful demonstration by students of KNUST turned violent leading to the destruction of school properties and a subsequent closing down of the school.

An interim council was set up to among other things ensure the re-opening of the school and establish the cause of the violence after government dissolved the school's governing council.
