By-election Violence: Major (Rtd) Derek Oduro Lauds Prez Akufo-Addo

Deputy Minister of Defence, Major (Rtd) Derek Oduro has lauded President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s condemnation and his quest to investigate the shooting incident that happened during the Ayawaso West Wuogon bye-election.

According to him, the previous government never ordered the police to investigate similar occurrences during bye-elections years back.

“Under the NDC government, from Chereponi, Talensi, Akwatia, Atiwa among others, no investigation was conducted during bye-election brutalities. But I am happy President Nana Addo has strongly condemned what happened at Ayawaso and has asked the police to investigate,” Major (Rtd) Derek Oduro said in an interview with NEAT FM’s evening political talk show ‘Torchlight’ with Mac Jerry Osei-Agyeman.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has condemned the violent attacks on some electorates during the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election last Thursday.

According to the President, his government regrets the shooting incident and brutality that took place during the elections and so is assuring Ghanaians that the Police are conducting an inquiry into the incident to bring the perpetrators to book.

"The isolated incident of violence, which occurred in the early stages of the election, was unfortunate and regrettable, and I condemn it in no uncertain terms. A by-election should be a peaceful and happy event, no matter how competitive," the President said in a statement.

"The Police is committed to conducting a rapid inquiry into the matter, and I expect all persons who are found culpable, at the end of the process, to face the full rigours of the law," President Akufo-Addo stressed in a statement.
