Political Youth Groups Not New; NPP Taking It To a 'Violence Level' - NDC MP

Member of Parliament [MP] for the Upper West Akim constituency in the Eastern region, Derek Assifu Ohene Bekoe has said that political youth groups popularly referred to as vigilante groups is a longtime practice, but the NPP's way of doing it has dented its image.

According to him the brutal trend taken by the current NPP government in power makes it look awkward, therefore his call for all forms of such vigilante groups to be completely disbanded.

He said the responsible authorities of the various security agencies must make sure that state security officers are the only personnel allowed to protect any state assignment.

“We have state security agencies, so authorities involved must make sure officers of the recognized state security institutions are the only personnel providing protection,” he said during UTV’s ‘Adekye Nsroma’ political discussion programme.

“I am a product of a youth group and a Youth Organizer who formed several youth groups for my party during the 1992, 1996 and 2000 elections.  The formation of youth groups for party purposes did not start today, but the recent one by the current government is worst off and must be condemned," he added.
