GSTS Student Fakes Own Kidnapping To Extort GH¢9,000 From His Parents

The police in the Western Region have arrested a teenager who they say faked his own kidnapping to extort money from his family.

Speaking to Peace FM's Western Regional Correspondent, Appiah Dankwah on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' programme, he confirmed that a final year-student of the Ghana Secondary Technical School (GSTS), De-Vreeze Quaynoo connived with his friends to demand a ransom of GH¢9,000 from his parents.

Appiah Danquah said Quaynoo was reportedly kidnapped by an unknown caller and subsequently informed the police.

According to Police investigations department in Secondi-Takoradi, De-Vreeze Quaynoo staged his own kidnapping to extort money from his parents.

Quaynoo is believed to have disappeared last Wednesday, according to the Senior Housemaster of GSTS, Mr. Bernard Adu Ampako, after he requested for an exeat.

Appiah Danquah explained that Daniel, an accomplice and Quaynoo bought and registered a new SIM card for the kidnap plan.

After buying the Sim Card, they placed a call to Quaynoo’s parents to inform them that he has been kidnapped and the kidnappers were demanding a ransom of GH¢9,000.

Investigators were immediately deployed to gather intelligence during which they found out that the victim was with some of his friends in a house around the Takoradi Secondary School (TADISCO) using his school uniform as a prove.

Osie-Prempeh, one of the chief planners was interrogated and later confessed that it was faked, adding that they were capitalizing on the recent kidnapping incidents to extort money from his parents.
