I Will Not Give Menzgold Car To EOCO Today or Forever - Maurice Ampaw Says It Was A 'Lien'

Private legal practitioner and political commentator, Maurice Ampaw says he is ready to face the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) and “teach them law” after debunking claims that the crime office is chasing him over Menzgold car.

According to him, “no official notice has been served to me, so I don’t know who is chasing who over a car.”

Report says the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) is on the heels of Maurice Ampaw, who still is in possession of a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado belonging to embattled gold dealership firm, Menzgold Ghana Limited.

Maurice Ampaw, according to the anti-graft body, is among six people, who are yet to surrender vehicles belonging to the beleaguered company, whose Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Nana Appiah Mensah, aka NAM1, is on trial in the United Arabs Emirate (UAE) over an alleged scandalous $51 million deal involving an Emirati firm named Horizon Royal Diamonds.

Responding to the issue in an interview with NEAT FM’s morning show ‘Ghana Montie’, the controversial lawyer admitted that the said car is in his possession but acquired it through legal means.

“Yes I have the car belonging to Menzgold, but the question is, how did I get that car?” he questioned

According to Lawyer Ampaw, until Menzgold Ghana Limited pays him his full investment worth GHc4million, he is not releasing the car to “anyone”.

“When Menzgold issues was starting, I officially wrote to them that I need my investment or I drag them to court, they replied to me explaining that they have challenges mobilizing money so we came to an agreement that I will own and use their Toyota Land Cruiser Prado as a lien until they pay back my money,” he explained

“I don’t even use that car; I have so many cars I am using. If EOCO wants to know, I am not Shatta Wale who was given the car for free, I am an investor. I will not give the car to them today or forever until I get my money back.”

“EOCO should stop this propaganda; I am the master in that game. They should rather learn the law and know what lien is,” he said.
