NDC Needs a Fresh Face For Victory In 2020 – Dela Coffie

An activist of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dela Coffie has said the loss of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2016 elections was not only a defeat but a rejection; hence the party needs a new leader for successive elections starting with election 2020.

According to him choosing former President Mahama again as the candidate of the NDC will be nothing but a disaster, as John Mahama upon all his popularity across the country was rejected for President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in the 2016 general election.

Speaking on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' programme, he recounts that "even though John Mahama was the sitting president with all the popularity and power, yet he lost the 2016 elections with close to 1 million votes . . . What went wrong?”

He also pointed out that John Mahama has already dent his image on the issue of corruption as it was on this same reason that he was voted out; quizzing "so why do you still want to bring the same person as a flagbearer?"

“The bad side of JDM is still fresh in the minds of Ghanaians . . . even though he did very well in terms of projects, his actions and inaction caused his defeat as Ghanaians remember him for the bad things,” he said.

“Volterians for instance are not ready to vote for him . . . We need a fresh face to win election 2020, if it is JDM that the party is planning then they should consider 2020 a lost battle," he added.

He therefore cautioned the party to do the right thing and also devoid from favoring him, thus the contest should be on merit and not with the support of anybody.
