National Youth Organizer of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Lawyer Henry Nana Boakye has slammed former President John Dramani Mahama for organizing a meeting with members of the diplomatic corps to discuss the electoral violence that characterised the recent Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election.
Former President John Dramani Mahama on Wednesday met with members of the diplomatic corps at Peduase.
At the meeting, he spoke again on the Ayawaso West Wuogon violence.
“The diplomats were shown multiple videos of the barbaric attacks, gun violence, unrepentant admissions of responsibility by a Minister of State at the Presidency, Bryan Acheampong and videos of previous outings of the NPP government vigilante groups, Delta and Invincible Forces,” a statement from the former President's office indicated.
The former President was joined by the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Samuel Ofosu Ampofo; General Secretary Johnson Asiedu Nketiah; the Deputy Minority Leader James Avedzi; a former Minister for National Security Kofi Totobi Quakyi; and senior members of the NDC.
Commenting on the meeting in an interview on Okay FM’s Ade Akye Abia Morning Show, Nana B as popularly called, labelled Mr John Mahama as a ‘sell out for painting Ghana black before the members of the diplomatic corps’.
Describing the action by the former President as shameful, the NPP activist slammed him for putting up an apathetic attitude following the barbarism that greeted members of the Let My Vote Count Alliance under his leadership as President; leading to one person losing the eye.
“They should have even set up a commission to look into the case but it never happened. In fact that beating happened simply because we did not comply with the police on the approved route for the demonstration and a police commander charged her people to open fire on us. But look at how police under NPP conducted themselves when the NDC embarked on demonstration recently; at a point they even disagreed about a route, but the NDC insisted on using their own route and nothing happened to anybody. But in our case, when we wanted to use a different route, the police attacked us under John Mahama’s watch,” he indicated.
“If we had a Commission to voice out grievance then, maybe it would have restored peace . . .he didn’t cough about it. Some of our people were hospitalized; did he even go there to visit them? But today, you are painting Ghana black because of your selfish motive,” he slammed.
“You have been a President before; you have been a Vice President before and all of these atrocities happened under your watch, you couldn’t make a move about them, but today, you have organised people and you paint Ghana black...are you satisfied with it, for a country you have led before; you are selling Ghana that it has become a war zone,” he bemoaned.
He therefore urged Ghanaians to be happy to have a leader in President Nana Akufo-Addo who upon the incident at Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election violence issued a statement in condemnation and again established a Commission of Inquiry to go into the matter.
“I am ashamed by his [Mahama’s] conduct. Today, you have a leader in Akufo-Addo who when the issue came up he issued a statement to condemn it which never happened under former President Mahama . . . the President has followed it up by setting up a Commission of Inquiry but Mahama didn’t do this in his time; rather he is selling Ghana out...,” he accused.
