The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Mr. Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, has faulted former President Mahama for the shooting incident that happened at the regional office of the NDC on Monday, 18 February 2019.

According to him, if the former president hadn’t made comments such matching other political parties “boot for boot” in the 2020 elections, members of the NDC wouldn’t carry firearms to their own internal meeting for the gangster.

John Mahama while addressing some NDC supporters on a campaign tour in the Volta Region said the NDC could match the governing NPP boot for boot when it comes to violence.

“...the NDC has revolutionary roots and that when it comes to unleashing violence,nobody can beat us in unleashing violence,” Mahama said.

Chairman Wontumi therefore shamed the former President for being the cause of the precious life which has been lost and urged him to backtrack and apologize to Ghanaians for preparing the grounds for such a disaster.

“I am saddened by the development as Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP where this despicable act has taken place. It is a shame and the former President must come out and apologize. My thoughts are with the family of the deceased and I wish the good people in NDC well with the exception of the few men like Mahama who has done the country a great disservice”, Chairman Wontumi said.

So far, the shooting that happened at the NDC’s office claimed one life while one person is in critical condition at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command have declared four persons presumed to be members of pro-NDC vigilante group “The Hawks” wanted.

The suspects, according to the police, are Warrior, Damous, Migyima and Abu Taliban.

The PRO of the regional police command, ASP Godwin Ahianyo told the media at a press briefing that the incident happened when some motorbike-riding gun-toting men alleged to be members of The Hawks invaded the NDC’s premises and fired several gunshots indiscriminately.
