Shooting@NDC Office: I Was Never Arrested - Yamoah-Ponkoh Clarifies

Former Municipal Chief Executive for the Ejisu-Juabeng Municipality, Kwaku Afrifa Yamoah-Ponkoh has dispelled reports that he was arrested and had his home raided by the police yesterday.

He says he was invited for friendly questioning by the Ashanti regional police command.

Speaking on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' programme, he explained that though the police stormed his house and conducted a search in his house, it was never done in a Rambo style as reported in the dailies.

"I was questioned and made to write my statement and granted bail. I will however be reporting again today at the regional police command," he added.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command have questioned former Deputy Ashanti Regional Minister, Joseph Yamin and a former Chief Executive for the Ejisu-Juabeng Municipality, Afrifa Yamoah-Ponko.

"There was nothing like a raid, I personally conducted them round the rooms in my house for the search they wanted to conduct.

"Afterwards, we drove like a convoy to the police command where the regional commander was waiting to have a friendly discussion with me, so there is nothing like my house was raided and I being arrested by the police," he insisted.

This follows the attack at the Ashanti Regional National Democratic Congress (NDC) office in Kumasi which left one dead and one other injured.

The two persons were at the Police command to write their statements on the shooting incident.

After questioning, the Police searched Mr Ponko’s residence over reports he had stockpiled arms on Tuesday morning.

“When I came here, it was more of a friendly kind of thing. The commander asked me my side of the story. I told him. I briefed the commander and his management team including the investigators and all that,” he told Okay FM.
