Mahama's "Boot-for-Boot" Comment Were "Reckless" . . . It Can Destabilize Ghana - Sammy Awuku

National Organizer of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Sammy Awuku has slammed former President John Dramani Mahama claiming his recent seditious comments may have motivated the perpetrators of the shooting incident that happened at the NDC office.

The shooting incident which occurred on Monday, February 18 resulted in the death of one NDC member, Wasihu Idrisu, 34, and another member of the party sustained serious gun wounds.

According to a Police report, a suspect nicknamed 'Warrior', a member of the NDC vigilante group 'The Hawks' attacked the deceased, pulled a pistol and shot him 6 times.

Addressing the issue on Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo' programme, Sammy Awuku stated that former President Mahama's "boot-for-boot" comments were "very unhelpful and reckless" and has the potency to destabilize the country with the NDC shooting incident being the end result.

"Mr. Mahama’s comments were very unhelpful and reckless. Why because [Chairman] words carry weight? And me, I won’t be sanctimonious here. I have stayed in this studio once ago and said when I was a boy, I spoke like a boy. Chairman, today when presented with that same opportunity; I won’t say ‘Take position’ because I’ve realized that governance is different. On several platforms, I’ve said it was one comment that was reckless and unhelpful and the nation’s democracy has moved on.

“And so for you to have a former leader of our country saying that nobody can compete us when it comes to unleashing violence (that was his quote), when it comes to unleashing violence and we’re going to match them boot-for-boot . . . So for me, if the party and civil society together with the Christian Council get the opportunity to say that former President, these comments of yours were unhelpful. It had the potency of destabilizing our country,” he told host Kwami Sefa Kayi.
