GRA Seize Goods In Takoradi For Wrongful Placement Of Stamp

The Ghana Revenue Authority has seized quantities of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages from most of the Shops in Sekondi Takoradi.

The seizure of the items by the Excise Stamp Team was due to the wrongful placement of the different kinds of stamp or non-stamped items.

The wrongful placement of the stamp according to Mr. Nelson Bright Atsu, head of the Excise Taskforce from Accra to the Sekondi/Takoradi Metropolis has a lot of financial loss implications to the state.

Meanwhile, other shops that had displayed their wares without the stamp were issued with seizure notice and their goods were taken from them.

According to the excise stamp law 2013, Act 873 section 15, sub-section 2, no trader has the right to sell, distribute or display items without the stamp.

At the All Needs Prestige Supermarket, cartons of Heineken drinks were seized for no stamps.

At the Garden Mart, lots of alcoholic beverages were removed from the shelves for misplacement of the excise Stamp.
The situation was not different at the Lucky Bazaar and You 84, among other places the team visited.

Mr. Atsu said compliance continue to be a hurdle for manufacturers and distributors alike and noted that the GRA would strengthen measures in ensuring total compliance.
