Ofosu-Ampofo's Leaked Tape: Doctored Or Not; Let’s Wait For CID Investigation

Kamal-Deen Abdulai, Deputy Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party, says even though the voice in a leaked tape making the rounds seems to be the voice of Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, there will be the need to conduct investigations to determine if it was doctored or not.

The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo has been captured in an audio allegedly plotting how to attack certain figures in the country as well as deal with vigilante groups within the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

“For the first time, I will endorse insulting the National Peace Council Chair; . . . the EC Chair, we must wage a relentless war against this EC Chair” are some of the remarks heard on the tape.

Even though, Kweku Boahen, Deputy Communications Officer of the NDC initially claimed the content of the audio was really uttered by Ofosu-Ampofo, he later claimed innocence.

Sammy Gyamfi, NDC Director of Communications and other communicators of the NDC says the audio was doctored.

Commenting on these issues on TV3’s 'The Key Point' programme, Kamal Deen Abdulai was surprised the NDC are trying to deny the content of the tape; however, whether or not it was doctored will be determined by the Criminal Investigative Department (CID).

"It’s interesting how we put crime under the political colours . . . what is wrong is wrong; not too long ago the same NDC held a press conference and talked about how unsafe we are in this country; about the insecurity in this country. They had called a press conference telling government to sit up; the same NDC now come to tell you that the tape which has the National Chairman speaking in a covert mode . . . If the same people spoke about insecurity and the need for us to strengthen our security; the same people now come out to defend comments that are very very bad. Why would I believe so (it was doctored) why don’t we allow authorities to conclude investigations (to determine whether the tape was doctored)."

He further indicated “ . . .the truth will always come out; the content and the voice in that tape is clearly pointing to the fact that Ofosu-Ampofo is the one; (nonetheless) it needs to be investigated”.
