Don't Vote For Political Parties Which Entertain Vigilante Groups - IGP To Ghanaians

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), David Asante Apeatu has called on Ghanaians to ensure political parties which entertain vigilante groups do not come into power.

The IGP is advising Ghanaians to vote against any party which fails to disband the vigilante groups stressing "vigilantism is a threat to our democracy".

David Asante Apeatu made this solemn appeal when he appeared before the Emile Short Commission of Inquiry on Tuesday, February 5, 2019 facing a probe into the Ayawaso West Wuogon violence.

Making his submissions at the Commission, he feared the existence of vigilante groups could become the bane of the economy and so asked the citizenry to help make the work of the Ghana Police easier.

"Political parties claim they do not sponsor, maybe individuals within the party do sponsor but it is my firm belief that if all of us, at least if we should get the critical mass of Ghanaians, to say that whoever has a vigilante group in his political party; we are not going to vote for you. You won’t get that power."

“ . . I am sure that it will make the work of the Police much more easier. So, all of us should take a decision because what we’re seeing now, if it metamorphose into another stage; it will be so difficult for us to reverse,” he said.
