'I Shielded Sam George In Bullet Storm; Was Ready To Die For Him' – 'Double'

Bright Ernest Akomea aka 'Double' has narrated how he shielded Sam George from attack from the large crowd gathered infront of the house of then Parliamentary candidate for the opposition National Democratic Congress, Delali Kwesi Brempong.

'Double' was one of the operatives of the SWAT team who stormed La-Bawaleshie during the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election.

Giving his testimony when he appeared before the Emile Short Commission, 'Double' said when the crowd started agitating he tried convincing the Ningo-Prampram Member of Parliament (MP) to leave the scene but he refused.

He further indicated that when the crowd starting throwing water and stones, he and another operative stood infront of the MP, shielding him to the extent that he was hit by one of the stones.

We knew him as a honourable member, an MP so we decided to protect him.

“I was hit by a stone on my shoulder . . . he is an MP, (and so) we were trying to protect him,” he said.

Asked if he was ready to die for Sam George, he said 'yes'.

Double 'The Law Breaker'

Meanwhile, 'Double' has also disclosed how he 'broke the law' twice for Sam George just because of his position as an MP.

"At a point when I was at my position at the VIP lounge of the Kotoka International Airport, he wanted some people to use the VIP lounge but they were not supposed to and I allowed them," he said.

He said at another time, Sam George said guards of La Dadekotopong Municipal Assembly had clamped his car and were towing it after he parked at the wrong place and he intervened again for him.
