Prez Nana Addo Gradually Introducing "Boko Haram Experience" In Ghana . . .?

A lecturer at the University of Ghana, Dr. Justice Moses Aheto, has accused President Akufo-Addo of introducing the experience of the infamous Nigerian Boko Haram in Ghana by allowing the breeding of militia groups to be set up at the Osu Castle.

According to him, the Boko Haram issue started with some individual politicians offering training to certain individuals in Nigeria, ostensibly for protection; but unfortunately, it degenerated into something else.

"Let's take our minds back to Nigeria how the whole Boko Haram started. Boko Haram issue didn't start on a silver platter; there are some individual politicians who are training some of these individuals to protect them and when they realised that they cannot control them anymore they left them to their fate and what happened."

"The guys pulled themselves together as one and they are now fighting the state to the extent that the state powers [security agencies] cannot even control them and it is the experience that our President Nana Addo is bringing to Ghana now," he asserted.

Contributing to panel discussion on Radio Gold's "Alhaji and Alhaji" political show, Dr. Aheto asserted that President Akufo-Addo does not need the opposition parties and stakeholders to deal with vigilantism in the country as the constitution made it clear what is criminal as far as individuals activities are concerned.

Going into the substantive issue about the alleged militia training in the Osu Castle, Dr. Moses Aheto asked the following questions: "are we at war? Is the nation at war, where over 5,000 individuals are being trained on rolling basis since 2018? Where are they going? You are training militia groups, where are you sending them to? Are they going to fight in Afghanistan? Are they going to fight in a war zone like Liberia somewhere else which is now even enjoying their peace?"

He feared that if care is not taken, "at the end of the day we are not able to tell as it is, all of us will wake up one day and our rose will be on fire; this is reality".

The University Lecturer appealed to the conscience of Ghanaians not to allow the ruling government and political powers to infiltrate the security agencies with their cronies.

"This is something we are taking for granted and I'm telling you on the serious note that, in serious operations, we have some of these vigilante groups being added to the regular security agencies to go and operate; I don't see the reason for that. It is now clear that the security agencies are being infiltrated or adulterated with these terrorist groups who are being led by rebel masters," he alleged.
