Muslims & Zongo Residents Should Resist Politicians Using Them As Political Thugs - Kamal Deen

Deputy Communications Director of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kamal Deen Abdul has reiterated the call on Muslims and residents in Zongo communities in the country to resist politicians using them as thugs.

Speaking on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo", Kamal Deen Abdul bemoaned the culture where political figures mobilize Zongo residents to fight their cause, such as in political vigilantism.

The NPP Communications Director explained to host Kwami Sefa Kayi that the Zongo communities are noted for violence because politicians have been inducing them with money to cause mayhem in the country.

He advised them not to allow themselves to be used as a conduit for violence because none of the politicians would allow their own children to go to battle with their lives.

When asked why politicians exploit Zongo people, Kamal Deen Abdul cited reasons as poverty and the lust for "quick money" among others are some factors that push these Zongo people to do the barbaric bidding of their paymasters.

We, the Zongo people and the Muslims, we are those who do this . . . The point is poverty. That is one element, poverty. Second, lack of education; we don’t like going to school. Then thirdly, the lust for quick money, these are the third elements or factors causing this thing,” he said.

He called on all leaders and politicians to be responsible and focus on nation building and not to take advantage of the youth to advance their ill motives.

"We have reduced our politics to money. We have reduced our politics to buying votes. Competence is thrown to the dogs. We’re not looking at people [Chairman General] who can say things which will bring about development and solutions,” he stated.
