Drivers of Members of Parliament (MPs) have raised concerns about their remuneration and working conditions.
According to the chairman of the Drivers Union, Mr Solomon Basoah, most of their engagements have been through word of mouth from their employers and not any proper contractual agreement.
This, he described, as very worrying since they are unable to demand for proper working conditions from their employers.
“Our services with our employers are not secured because of the manner of our engagement and it’s very worrying. Activities are mostly done by mouth and that is what we fighting against,” he said on Asempa FM’s Ekosi Sen Thursday.
Mr Basoah said they are hired at the MPs’ own discretion and appealed to their employers to help streamline their conditions of service including payment of Social Security and National Insurance Trust.
Aside demand for increment of their salary, the drivers want measures to be put in place so that entitlements such as holiday and risk allowances would be paid.
According to him, they have petitioned the majority leader, Mr Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu on the issue, but nothing has been done since last year.
The drivers are, therefore, pleading with their employers to act swiftly, else they would be forced to take legitimate action.
